FAQs
Whether this is your first time searching for a therapist or you’ve been through this process before, you're likely to have some questions. I’ve put together answers to the most commonly asked questions below. If you're still in doubt, don't hesitate to reach out
I have over 15 years experience of practicing in the NHS as well as private practice and I am an accredited member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). This accreditation confirms that my qualifications meet rigorous standards and that I practice in line with the BABCP code of ethics. You can verify my credentials by searching for my name on the BABCP CBT Register
I have personal ongoing therapy myself and I regularly invest in my professional development by completing courses and training each year, with a particular focus on trauma. This commitment to learning means I can keep my knowledge up to date and bring a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to my work with clients.
No you don't have to but it can be helpful if you're looking to have ongoing therapy. It can help us both get a feel for whether we would work well together and give you an opportunity to get more clarity on any doubts or questions you may have.
If you'd like to skip the Intro call and got straight to booking the initial consultation, please email: hello@santospsychotherapy.com
Each therapy session fee lasting up to 60 minutes, is £90. I currently only accept Aviva insurance.
I also offer 45 minute coaching sessions, the fee is £65. The one -off up to 2 hour Birth Debrief session and follow up is £195.
Babies in arms are very welcome to attend sessions where needed and I will always adapt the space to support both you and your baby during our time together.
Some clients do find it helpful to consider whether having their baby present may affect their ability to fully settle into the space, speak openly, or stay focused on their own thoughts and feelings without needing to attend to their baby throughout the session.
For birth debrief and coaching sessions, this is entirely your choice and we can work flexibly around your needs.
For trauma-focused therapy, there would usually need to be at least a small number of sessions attended without your baby present. This is because some parts of trauma-focused work can involve deeper emotional processing, and having dedicated space focused entirely on you can help support the therapeutic process safely and effectively.
If you have any questions or feel unsure about the practicalities of attending sessions with your baby, you are very welcome to arrange an introductory call and we can talk things through together.
Yes, I offer therapy to clients all over the world with the exception of those who live in the US or Canada (due to indemnity insurance restrictions).
Yes I offer face to face sessions in Bingley, West Yorkshire. I also offer online sessions. Extensive research shows online therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions. I believe that your geographical location shouldn't be a barrier to you choosing the best therapist for you.
My therapy clinic days currently run during daytime hours from Monday to Thursday. My earliest appointment is 09:00 and my latest appointment is 14:00.
If you are looking for a different day or time, you are very welcome to get in touch and we can discuss whether there may be any flexibility or alternative arrangements available.
Many clients choose to begin with weekly sessions, as regular sessions can help create a sense of continuity and support as we begin working together. At the same time, I understand that finances, childcare, work and family life can all affect what feels realistic. We can therefore discuss together what frequency feels both supportive and manageable for you.
The duration of your therapy is a personal choice so this can vary a lot depending on your needs and preferences. Many of my clients complete therapy within 4-6 months while my other clients find therapy so valuable, they choose to have ongoing sessions for longer. Either way, I never assume you wish to continue so we'll have regular check ins and reviews of therapy along the way. Usually after our initial appointment I can give you an idea of whether I feel short-term or longer-term therapy will be more helpful for you.
Please be aware that I don't provide crisis support outside of our sessions.
If you feel that you may be at immediate risk of harming yourself, or are unable to keep yourself or your baby safe, please contact 999, attend your nearest A&E department, or seek urgent support through your GP, out-of-hours GP service, NHS 111, or your local NHS mental health crisis service.
For additional emotional support, you may also find it helpful to contact Samaritans on 116 123, or PANDAS Foundation for perinatal mental health support during pregnancy and postpartum
